Main features
  • Pronounced Tactility: Features a large, rounded tactile bump that starts at the very beginning of the keypress, providing clear and satisfying feedback.
  • Double-Stage Spring: Equipped with a 22mm double-stage gold-plated spring. This ensures a faster, more responsive rebound compared to standard springs.
  • Factory Pre-Lubed: Automated factory lubrication on the stem and spring reduces friction and spring ping, offering a smooth keystroke without manual modification.
  • Long Pole Stem: The extended POM stem bottoms out earlier than standard switches (3.4mm total travel), creating a distinct, sharp sound signature.
Feel & sound
  • The Feel: Highly tactile and responsive. The 59g actuation force and early tactile bump make every keystroke feel deliberate, while the double-stage spring pushes back quickly for a snappy typing experience.
  • The Sound: Unlike the muted thock of the Oil Kings, the Baby Kangaroo produces a brighter, crisper "clack" or "marbly" sound. This is primarily due to the long pole stem hitting the bottom housing.
  • Upgraded Light Transmittance: The V2 edition features an upgraded transparent polycarbonate top housing and a light guide, offering excellent RGB diffusion and brightness.

Compatibility & pairings
  • Compatibility: Fully compatible with any 5-pin MX-style mechanical keyboard (including all our Keychron Q and V Max series). Can be modified to fit 3-pin boards by simply clipping the two plastic legs.
  • Perfect Pairings: Want to maximize the acoustic potential of these switches? Pair them with a heavy, gasket-mounted aluminum board like our Keychron Q1 Max ISO or Keychron Q5 Max ISO. The solid metal frame helps balance the higher-pitched "clack" of the switch, resulting in a clean and lively sound profile.
What's in the box?
  • Set of 110 Baby Kangaroo 2.0 Tactile Switches.
  • Packaged securely in a protective hard-plastic container.
  • 💡 Tip: How many sets do you need? For a compact 75% keyboard like the Keychron Q1 Max or V1 Max, we recommend buying 2 sets to cover the ~84 keys. For a larger 96% or full-size layout like the Keychron Q5 Max, you will need 3 sets to cover all ~108 keys and keep a few spares for the future.

Gateron Baby Kangaroo 2.0 Tactile Switch

A pronounced tactile switch

Let's be honest about tactile switches for a second. Most of the time, the bump on standard brown switches just feels like a bit of grit caught in the keyboard. If you want a switch where you actually feel a deliberate physical bump, the Gateron Baby Kangaroo V2 is usually what we suggest. The tactile event hits immediately at the very top of the press. It gives you immediate feedback, which is quite helpful if you are trying to cut down on typos.

Clear feedback

You get a very noticeable, rounded bump right at the start of the press.

Image

A sharper sound

The long pole stem creates a distinct, higher-pitched 'clacky' sound instead of a deep thud.

Image

Fast rebound

A longer 22mm spring pushes the key back up against your finger quickly, so the switch never feels sluggish.

The long pole sound profile

People often ask what a "long pole" stem actually does. It's pretty simple: the center piece of the switch is physically longer than usual. Because of this, it hits the bottom of the nylon housing a fraction of a second earlier than a standard switch would. This cuts the total travel distance down to 3.4mm. As a result, you don't get a deep, muted thock here. Instead, it produces a much sharper, brighter clack. It gives a custom keyboard a very lively sound.

A heavy bump with a quick return

One common issue with strong tactile switches is that they can feel a bit sticky or slow to type on. To fix this, Gateron put in a 22mm double-stage spring. In everyday practice, this just means the spring has enough tension to forcefully push the key back up after you press it. Combine that with some surprisingly consistent factory lubrication, and the downward motion feels remarkably smooth, even with that heavy bump in the way.

Upgraded V2 features

There are a couple of practical reasons we stock the V2 iteration. They upgraded the metal contacts inside, which essentially means they should just survive more keystrokes over the years without failing. But for daily use, the most noticeable difference is the top housing. It is made of clear polycarbonate and includes a small light guide. So if you happen to use RGB backlighting on your desk setup, the light shines straight through without getting blocked by opaque plastics.

Compatible Keyboards.

Any K series (Gateron Mechanical Hot-Swappable or Keychron Mechanical Hot-Swappable versions only), K Pro series (Normal-profile versions only), C and C Pro series (Hot-Swappable versions only), V and V Max series, Q, Q Pro and Q Max series Keychron keyboards, and L and P Series Lemokey keyboards.

Note: These are 5-pin switches. If your keyboard only supports 3-pin switches, you can easily modify them by clipping off the two plastic side legs with a flush cutter.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Linear and Tactile switches?

Linear switches (like the Gateron Oil King) offer a smooth, uninterrupted press from top to bottom. Tactile switches (like the Baby Kangaroo) feature a noticeable physical bump during the keypress. This tactile feedback lets you feel exactly when a key has been registered, which many users prefer for typing accuracy.

Are Baby Kangaroo V2 switches pre-lubed?

Yes. Gateron applies an automated factory lube to the stem and spring. This process reduces unwanted spring ping and friction, ensuring that the tactile bump feels smooth and consistent right out of the box.

Are these switches good for gaming?

While many gamers traditionally prefer linear switches, tactile switches are excellent for games that require deliberate, precise inputs. The early tactile bump and snappy double-stage spring provide excellent feedback and a fast return, preventing accidental keypresses.
